Every Custom Project is unique, but the process is thoughtfully structured. From our initial consultation through the final delivery, you'll always know what to expect. The information below outlines each step of the Custom Project process and the policies that help ensure a successful collaboration.
Custom Projects are collaborative, client-specific pieces created specifically for you.
Every Custom Project follows a similar process:
Project minimums are intended as general guidelines. Peterson MADE reserves the right to accept or decline projects based upon scope, complexity, scheduling, and overall fit.
See the Agreement below to learn about each step of the process in greater detail.
Ready to explore your custom project? Schedule your Complimentary Consultation, or join my email list to stay informed!
A Complimentary Consultation provides an opportunity to discuss your project goals, style inspirations, materials, budget, desired timeline, and overall vision. This meeting allows both parties to determine whether the project is feasible and a good fit.
Following the Consultation, your project will either advance to a Design Phase or proceed directly to Production, depending on the scope of work. The remaining Terms & Conditions apply regardless of which project path is followed, unless otherwise noted.
If both parties decide to move forward, the client will complete and sign the Custom Project Agreement before work begins.
For projects requiring a Design Phase, a non-refundable $200 Design / Consultation Fee is due at the time the Agreement is signed.
The Design / Consultation Fee compensates Peterson MADE for the professional time invested in project planning, design development, scheduling, communication, and administrative preparation required to initiate your Custom Project.
As a courtesy, the Design / Consultation Fee will be applied as a credit toward the final invoice for Active Projects that proceed through Production. Projects that do not advance through Production are not eligible for the Design / Consultation Fee credit.
The client will provide any materials, sizing information, measurements, or other project-specific information required to complete the project. Project timelines begin once all required materials and information have been received.
Upon receipt of the applicable Design / Consultation Fee (when required), the completed Custom Project Agreement, and any required project materials, your project will be placed on Peterson MADE's Design & Production Schedule and considered an Active Project.
An estimated timeframe to begin your project will be provided. Projects may begin immediately or be scheduled for a future start date based on the project scope and Peterson MADE's current Design & Production Schedule. When practical, Peterson MADE will provide approximately two weeks' notice prior to the scheduled Design Phase or Production start.
During the Design Phase, the project concept will be developed and refined into a finalized design suitable for Production.
Depending on the scope of work, the Design Phase may include concept development, sketches, material selection, sourcing, sizing, manufacturing considerations, design revisions, and other activities necessary to finalize the project. Some projects require Computer-Aided Design (CAD), in which case a separate CAD design fee will apply and must be paid in full before CAD development begins.
Once the Design Phase is complete, Peterson MADE will prepare an estimated quote for the client's review.
Client approval of the finalized design and estimated quote is required before the project may proceed to Production.
Projects that do not require a Design Phase can proceed directly from an approved estimate to Production, subject to Peterson MADE's current Design & Production Schedule.
Production begins upon receipt of the payment required to initiate Production, as outlined in the approved estimate. Upon receipt of payment, Production will be scheduled, required materials will be ordered, and fabrication will begin.
Once Production has begun, any requested changes to the approved design, materials, specifications, or scope of work may result in additional charges, revised timelines, or may not be possible depending on the stage of Production.
Once Production has begun, the project may not be cancelled. Custom Projects are final sale and are not eligible for return or refund.
Payment of the remaining balance is due in full prior to delivery or shipment. For eligible projects, the previously paid Design / Consultation Fee will be reflected as a credit on the final invoice. Completed projects will not be delivered or shipped until payment has been received in full.
Due to fluctuations in precious metal markets and supplier pricing, all estimates are valid only for the timeframe stated on the estimate.
Pricing is established once the client accepts the estimate and submits the payment required to begin Production. Estimates not accepted within the stated validity period may require revision based on current market pricing.
Estimated timelines vary depending on project scope, material availability, fabrication methods, and Peterson MADE's current Design & Production Schedule. Most Custom Projects require approximately 4–16 weeks to complete once Production begins, although larger or more complex projects may require additional time.
Delays in providing approvals, required materials, or required payments may affect project scheduling. Project scheduling will be based on Peterson MADE's current Design & Production Schedule.
Some Custom Projects involve client-provided jewelry, gemstones, precious metals, or other materials. The client acknowledges and accepts the inherent risks associated with disassembling, removing, resetting, resizing, soldering, cutting, polishing, fabricating, or otherwise working with client-provided materials.
Client-provided materials may contain hidden defects, previous repairs, excessive wear, or other conditions that cannot always be detected before work begins. The condition of materials may not be fully apparent until they are disassembled, removed, modified, fabricated, or reset, and working with previously used materials may involve risks that cannot be fully anticipated in advance.
When client-provided precious metals are supplied for a Custom Project, Peterson MADE will determine whether those materials are appropriate for reuse based on the project design, manufacturing method, and condition of the materials. If reuse is not appropriate, Peterson MADE will discuss available options with the client, including returning the materials or applying a credit toward the project based on the recoverable precious metal value determined by Peterson MADE.
Although every reasonable precaution will be taken, Peterson MADE cannot guarantee against damage resulting from the inherent risks of working with client-provided materials. If damage or a previously undetected condition is discovered before or during fabrication, Peterson MADE will notify the client and discuss available options before proceeding.
Peterson MADE is not responsible for client-provided materials that are lost or damaged while being shipped to or from the studio.
By proceeding with the project, the client acknowledges these inherent risks, authorizes Peterson MADE to perform the agreed-upon work, and releases Peterson MADE, LLC from liability for damage resulting from the inherent risks associated with client-provided materials.
All original designs created by Peterson MADE remain the intellectual property of Peterson MADE, LLC.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, Peterson MADE, LLC retains all copyrights and design rights associated with Custom Projects and reserves the right to reproduce, reinterpret, modify, or create future works that are substantially similar to any Custom Project.
Peterson MADE understands that circumstances sometimes delay a project. If a client is notified that it is time to advance to the next phase of the project and does not respond or is not ready to proceed, Peterson MADE will allow up to thirty (30) consecutive days for the client to respond and advance the project.
Once Production begins, the project may not be paused or cancelled. Custom Projects are final sale and are not eligible for return or refund.
Projects that remain inactive for more than thirty (30) consecutive days prior to the start of Production will be removed from Peterson MADE's active Design & Production Schedule and are no longer eligible to receive the Design / Consultation Fee credit toward the final invoice.
If a project is discontinued or removed from the active schedule, the client agrees to retrieve any client-provided materials upon request. Peterson MADE is not responsible for storing client-provided materials indefinitely.
If a project is reactivated at the client's request, Peterson MADE will first review the project scope and prepare an updated estimate. Any previously issued estimate may no longer be valid and may require revision based on the current project scope, market pricing, material costs, and Peterson MADE's pricing in effect at the time of reactivation. Once the updated estimate is accepted, the project may advance to the next phase and will be scheduled based on Peterson MADE's current Design & Production Schedule.
